Nagavalli is a central character in the Malayalam movie “Manichitrathazhu,” depicted as a talented and beautiful classical dancer from the past whose spirit haunts an ancient mansion of Alummoottil® Meda. The movie was directed by Sree Fazil and the screenplay was written by Sree Madhu Muttom Her story is deeply intertwined with themes of love, betrayal, and revenge.

Nagavalli’s tragic backstory involves her passionate love for Ramanathan, her capture and imprisonment by Shankaran Thampi (a landlord from Kerala, her murder of Thampi, and her untimely suicide, leading to her vengeful spirit seeking justice. Throughout the film, her presence is felt through supernatural occurrences and her possession of Ganga, the female protagonist. Shobhana’s genius performance in the role of Nagavalli/Ganga won her a national award.

Despite her vivid portrayal, Nagavalli is entirely a fictional creation by scriptwriter Madhu Muttom. There are no historical records or real-life counterparts related to the Alummoottil® family. Although inspired by a political assassination within Alummoottil® family, Nagavalli’s character does not directly connect to this incident.
