The Wailing Wall

. . .

Near the Alummoottil estate stood an old well known for its sweet water. But one monsoon night, the well’s water turned red, and a haunting wail echoed from its depths.

The family discovered that a woman named Parvathy, who had worked as a servant, had jumped into the well after being falsely accused of theft. Her spirit was said to haunt the estate, crying out for justice.

The chieftain, Madhavan Channar, refused to acknowledge her death, dismissing it as superstition. But soon, he began to hear her voice in the dead of night, calling his name.

“Madhavan… You know the truth… Why do you hide it?”

Frightened, he confessed to the family that Parvathy was innocent and that her accuser had lied to him. To appease her spirit, the family performed a ritual by the well, offering milk and flowers.

The wailing ceased, but the well was sealed with stones. Even today, locals avoid the area, claiming to hear faint cries on stormy nights.
