In a time when exotic birds were symbols of wealth, the Alummoottil family owned a brilliant green parrot named Chitrangan, gifted by a visiting merchant. This was no ordinary bird—it was said to mimic voices perfectly, often startling guests with its uncanny ability to imitate conversations.
One evening, during a family gathering, the parrot startled everyone by saying, “Beware of the Meda. Danger lurks.”
The family laughed, assuming it was mimicking a servant. But the parrot grew restless, repeating the warning in a hauntingly human tone.
Curious, Madhavan Channar decided to investigate. In the Meda, he discovered a sealed trunk containing a forgotten will, written by a past chieftain. The will detailed the division of family wealth and revealed a plot by an estranged cousin to claim the estate.
Realizing the parrot’s warning had saved the family, Madhavan declared it sacred. When the bird died years later, it was buried with honors, and a small shrine was built in its memory. The Meda, however, remains a place of mystery, as some believe the parrot’s spirit still guards the family secrets.
