In the serene surroundings of the Evoor Krishna Swami temple, a remarkable transformation was unfolding. The rhythmic sounds of construction echoed through the air as diligent workers toiled away to bring to life a magnificent dining hall known as the “Uttoopura.” This hall was destined to become a place of communal gathering and sustenance, a testament to the devotion and generosity of those involved.

As the days passed, the construction was steadily reaching its culmination. The temple’s Uttoopura was now more than just a blueprint on paper; its walls stood tall, its roof stretched proudly overhead, and the intricate details were being meticulously attended to. Skilled artisans and laborers worked harmoniously, ensuring that every facet of this grand edifice reflected the dedication and reverence it was meant to embody. At that moment, Sekharan Channar was giving instructions to the workers. An outsider approached and discreetly asked a Namboodiri there, “Why have you brought this Channar here? Isn’t he making the temple impure by his presence near our temple? He seems to be taking charge of everything and leading the construction of the Uttoopura. You should ask him to leave.”

The Namboodiri smiled knowingly and replied, “Do you know who he is? He comes from the Aalumoottil family, which owns properties from Konnavilakom in Pettah Trivandrum to the marketplace in our Kayamkulam. They have extensive wetlands and dry lands in many of our villages, and he has acquired land in Quilon, Vaikkom, Vadakum Paravoor, and other Taluks and lot more. Most importantly, his philanthropic intentions led to the construction of this Uttoopura, which he generously donated to the temple. He even acquired land nearby to oversee and manage the Uttoopura’s construction on the temple grounds.”

The outsider was left speechless and in disbelief. The Namboodiri continued, “In simple terms, you are standing on land donated by Channar for our temple!”

Overwhelmed with shame, the outsider lowered his gaze and remained silent. Just then, a Muslim worker approached the Namboodiri and said, “No one has done more for our community here than Channar. You see, he built a mosque in eastern side of Tazhvallil, Muttom, covering all the construction costs himself, and then selflessly gifted it to the Muslim community. He has also shown great kindness to the Christian community here.”

The Namboodiri added, “Indeed, Sekaran Channar possessed a profoundly benevolent and inclusive spirit, with a deep understanding of religion and spirituality.”

Unaware of this conversation, Sekaran Channar joined them and asked, “What’s the discussion here? It seems quite serious.” The outsider responded, “You are truly doing a remarkable service for our community.”

Channar simply smiled and looked toward the sky, attributing all the credit to God. After a moment of silence, he shared his vision, saying, “Perhaps you can view this as a silent social revolution. My dream is for a time when all people are treated equally, as we sing in our Onapattu. I envision a society without discrimination in any aspect, a time when there is no untouchability or caste system.”

As Channar spoke, his words carried deep meaning, though some couldn’t fully grasp the depth of his vision. They lacked the insight to comprehend the aspirations of this legendary figure…
