In 1878, Valiyakunju Shankaran Channar played a pivotal role in drafting the Nischayapathram (property agreement), which redefined property management in the Alummoottil family. This legal document categorized the family’s vast properties into three sections:
- Common properties shared by all branches.
- Branch-specific properties allocated to descendants of Kochikkachannatty and Mammachannatty.
- Temple and charitable properties, including provisions for Brahminical rituals and donations.
The agreement meticulously documented properties using traditional terms such as mandapam, vatukkal, and thara, detailing 108 residential plots, 27 granaries, and 1,497 paras of agricultural land. Additionally, allocations were made for temple rituals and community feasts.
This agreement aimed to ensure harmony and equitable distribution, although disputes among family members over its terms arose later. Despite the challenges, the Nischayapathram remains a testament to Shankaran Channar’s foresight and administrative skills.
