During Shekaran Channarís Karanavarship from 1886 to 1891 the glory of the Tharavad reached in peak, both financially and in fame. Properties annexed to the Tharavadís commercial empire included those at Thiruvanathapuram and Chennai.

In the midst of this might, the Tharavadís Kaaranavars administered at least a 5 mile radius in this region, not to forget the satellite houses dispersed in other locations within the kingdom. The post independence era witnessed the Tharavad descendantsí attention focus towards notable bureaucratic positions within the state and central governments. Subsequently, this century saw many social reformers and qualified professionals hailing from the Tharavad including lawyers, doctors, engineers and administrators.
